Jack Lynch MIT ’63 shows MIT winning a 1F race on 4-16-60 with the result as 1- Harvard; 2- MIT; 3- Navy in “Nice Row, MIT” Aventine Press (2008) pp32; however, NAAA records indicate that from the inception of Navy lightweight crew in 1954 Navy freshmen never traveled to away match races until 1978 and 1979 and thereafter did not travel to away match races permanently until 1985. With the exception of the 1957 Eastern Sprints, which were hosted by Navy on the Severn River in Annapolis, Navy 1F didn’t begin competing annually at the Eastern Sprints until the 1970 Sprints.
