Navy lightweight rowing began in 1954 with the seating of a varsity eight that rowed in the 1954 EARC Sprints Championship.
Navy and Rutgers met for the first time in 1963. The two crews continued to compete frequently but not annually.
At the end of the 2007 spring rowing season Rutgers’ men’s heavyweight and lightweight rowing programs were reduced to club status due to university budget cuts. While Rutgers crews continue to compete, 2007 was the last season that Navy and Rutgers competed.
Navy led the series 16 – 8.
